Between October 24 and 26, < 1 >o took place. The 30th Congress of the Portuguese Orthodontic Society took place in the auditorium of the Super Bock Arena in the invincible city of Porto. Under the theme “A Journey Through Orthodontics,” this year’s congress, like the previous year, combined “a high-level scientific program and an entertainment program that brought together more than 500 participants.”

The 30th SPO Congress was the ideal moment for many colleagues to get together and socialize, and also for the newer members to have the opportunity to debate with experts and opinion leaders.

The panel of speakers included leading figures in national and international orthodontics in their areas of research, specialization and teaching: Ágata Carvalho, Alex Bayona, Andrea Bono, Bilal Koleilat, Carlos Faria, Constanza Quadrado, Francisco Coutinho, Elena Cervino, Enzo Pasciuti, Gemma Lopez, Helena Afonso Agostinho, Maria Cristina Teixeira, Martim Pedernera, Pedro Costa Monteiro, Pedro Dominguez, Ramon Mompell, Sofia Lopes, Soraia Oliveira and Teresa Pinho.

The pre-congress featured two top speakers who discussed how to increase the predictability of clinical treatments and how to treat highly complex cases with the new tools of digital orthodontics and aligners.

The congress covered a wide range of topics, focusing on fixed orthodontics with brackets, functional orthodontics, different surgical approaches in orthodontic-surgical treatments, TMJ pathology in orthodontic treatments, facial harmonization in orthodontics, problems of external root resorption and iatrogenic lesions, and the importance of clinical diagnosis in the digital age.

The President of the Society, Professor Dr. Helena Agostinho, gave a speech in which she mentioned how, in two years, the current leadership transformed the SPO with careful management that has yielded results.

A highlight of the opening ceremony was the tribute paid by the President, Prof. Dr. Helena Afonso Agostinho, to her predecessors, the Presidents of the Society and the Congresses. A video was shown for future reference, featuring images from the SPO’s thirty-two years. A commemorative gift was presented.

Sponsors seeking to increase their presence in Portugal saw the 30th SPO Congress as an opportunity for exposure and affirmation. For the second consecutive year, records were broken for the highest number of exhibitors and participants ever.
